New developments in commitment charters for improved nutrition (France)
In the framework of PNNS 2 , a committee was designated by the Ministry of Agriculture to elaborate a referential to help the food industry and their professional organisations wishing to hold a commitment charter for improved nutrition.
The government will recognize the charters’ validity once approved by an expert committee.
The commitments for improved nutrition can encompass 3 intervention fields:
1. Improvement of the nutritional composition of existing products
2. Creation of substitution products
3. Intervention on products consumption (frequency, quantity, target population)
Numerous principles will frame the elaboration of the charters, as for example, the equity principle stating that a company’s commitment for improved nutrition must not affect its products accessibility, notably through a significant increase in price.
The referential is awaited for February 2008 functions of first expertises results.
